As told by Swami Kuvalyanand: "Yoga has a message for the human body, for the human mind and the human spirit".

As a matter of fact, a healthy mind is to have a healthy body. In case, if the mind is not healthy then it is quite obvious that even the body will not be healthy. Here we will discuss about Anuloma –Viloma Pranayams

. Now the main question that arises here is as to what is pranayam? A simple answer to this question will be that it means management of the vital force- prana. Anuloma- Viloma is the yoga breathing asana

which has been followed by people since ages. Though there have been many pranayams that have been made, these are the ones that are followed till date. Practicing of Anuloma- Viloma is like the force of the cops that regulate the traffic, and also take care of cleanliness, beautification etc besides making the traffic movement smooth forever. It is very important to understand the method of performing pranayama. To do pranayams the simple method is to breathe in through one nostril and breathe out through the other nose and vice versa. This is commonly known as Anuloma- Viloma or the method of alternate breathing.

If you are interested in practicing this, then all you need to do is to sit in the yogic posture and start with the normal breathing by applying moola- bandha i.e. contraction of the anus. The moola- bandha has to be kept stable, then breath in and breathe out completely. One should be very careful and make sure that the moola bandha is not loosened while practicing. Take a pause between breathing in and breathing out. Breathe in and deeply via left nostril and breathe out through right; then the process of breathing in through the left nostril and breathing out through the right nostril should continue and should not be continued for more than one to three minutes of time. Next stage is to close the right nostril with the right thumb and keep the other fingers together and breathe through the left nostril. Repeat with the other nostril and take care while breathing in, raise the shoulders, expand the chest and pull in the abdominal region. It cleans the respiratory passages and the breathing becomes easy and regulated.
